In a small town where people knew one another’s habits, an elderly woman’s unusual shopping routine became the subject of countless rumors. Every morning, shortly after the butcher opened his shop, she would arrive and purchase an astonishing quantity of meat. Sometimes she bought 40 kilograms. On other days, the amount reached nearly 60 kilograms.
At first, the butcher assumed she was purchasing food for a large family, perhaps preparing for a wedding, a celebration, or a gathering of relatives. But the woman always came alone, carried no shopping list that anyone could see, and offered few explanations.
What made the situation even stranger was that she never appeared to run a restaurant, operate a food business, or host large gatherings. She lived in an aging house on the outskirts of town, where neighbors rarely saw visitors.
As the weeks passed, the butcher began wondering what one person could possibly do with so much meat.
Then, one afternoon, a rumor began circulating about an abandoned ship near the coast. According to the story, the vessel had been left behind years earlier after a mysterious incident, and nobody had been able to explain what had happened aboard it.
Someone eventually suggested that the old woman’s daily purchases might somehow be connected to the ship.
It was an extraordinary claim. But the more people discussed it, the more curious the town became.
The Woman Who Returned Every Morning
The butcher remembered the first time the woman entered his shop.
She was dressed simply in dark clothing and moved slowly but deliberately through the crowded market. She looked at the meat displayed behind the counter, asked a few questions about its freshness, and then requested several large cuts.
The quantity surprised him.
When he calculated the total weight, he realized she had purchased far more meat than most households would need for several days.
He politely asked whether she was preparing for a special occasion.
The woman gave him a brief answer, paid for her order, and left.
The following morning, she returned.
This time, she bought even more.
Soon, the daily purchases became a familiar sight. Other customers began noticing her, and conversations about her unusual behavior spread through the market.
Some people assumed she was wealthy and secretly supplying several families. Others believed she might be preparing meals for people who could not afford food.
A few suggested that she owned animals or operated a business outside town.
Yet none of these explanations seemed to fit what people thought they knew about her.
The woman lived alone, rarely spoke to her neighbors, and appeared to have no obvious reason for purchasing such extraordinary quantities of meat.
Still, she continued coming every morning.
